Queensland Pharmacy Students Unite: QSOP Alliance Officially Launched
A historic collaboration between UQ and QUT pharmacy student associations promises to transform student engagement, advocacy, and leadership across the state.
On the 16th of May 2025, at the inaugural QSOP Charity Gala hosted at Fridays Riverside, the Presidents of the Queensland Pharmacy Students Association (QPSA) and the QUT Student Pharmacy Association (QUTSPA) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Queensland Students of Pharmacy (QSOP) Alliance – marking a landmark moment in the unification of Queensland’s pharmacy students.
The QSOP Alliance was born from a shared recognition of what students across the state have been asking for: more inter-university events, stronger Queensland-specific advocacy, and a deeper sense of connection and collaboration. By extending on the work of NAPSA, and bringing together the collective strengths of both associations, QSOP aims to unlock greater opportunities, strengthen the student voice, and create impactful outcomes through united action.
As part of the MoU, the mandates of the management Council were set. These mandates include:
1. Members First
2. Equity Between Associations
3. Transparency
4. Collective Strength
These mandates were set to guarantee to members that QSOP will lead by example and ensure that the most important people – our members – are kept central to everything.
The Alliance doesn’t just benefit students – it also creates an unprecedented opportunity for professional bodies, pharmacy organisations, and industry partners – especially those who are yet to be involved – to engage more easily and meaningfully with pharmacy students across Queensland than ever before.
This initiative marks a national first in state-based student pharmacy collaboration, positioning Queensland as a leader in this space. With a range of joint initiatives and events already in planning, students can expect to see even more connection, professional development, and collaboration in the months ahead.
Statement from the Chair of the QSOP Alliance Council:
The launch of the Queensland Students of Pharmacy (QSOP) Alliance marks a historic step forward for student leadership, collaboration, and advocacy in Australia.
As the nation’s first formalised state-based pharmacy student alliance, QSOP represents a bold and united platform for change – driven by students, for students.
Queensland has long led the way in pharmacy practice, education, and scope. Now, through QSOP, our student leaders are stepping up to ensure that same leadership is reflected in the support, representation, and opportunities available across our universities.
QPSA and QUTSPA have shown what genuine leadership looks like: listening to their members and acting. Students called for stronger inter-university connections, more meaningful advocacy, and more joy in their student experience. The QSOP Alliance is our collective answer.
It is an enormous privilege to have been entrusted by the Presidents of QUTSPA and QPSA to lead the formation of this alliance and serve as Chair of the QSOP Council. That trust is not something I take lightly.
To every member across our associations: I give you my word that QSOP will be grounded in service, transparency, and impact. This Alliance exists for you, not above you. You are, and will remain, at the centre of everything we do.
Statement from the President of the Queensland Pharmacy Students Association
As the oldest pharmacy student association in Queensland, the Queensland Pharmacy Students' Association (QPSA) is proud to announce its official affiliation with the Queensland Students of Pharmacy (QSOP).
Queensland, home to two leading pharmacy schools, is the second-largest state in Australia and a growing hub for pharmaceutical education and innovation. This new alliance marks a significant milestone in uniting future pharmacists across the state.
The foundation of this partnership reflects a shared commitment to collaboration, excellence, and advancement within the profession. By working together, QPSA and QSOP aim to strengthen connections, enhance opportunities for students, and support the development of the next generation of pharmacy leaders in this trailblazing state.
Statement from the President of the Queensland University of Technology Student Pharmacy Association
QUTSPA extends our full support to the formation of QSOP and commends this initiative and its goal of fostering connection amongst Queensland Pharmacy Students.
Given the close proximity of Queensland based Pharmacy Student Associations, inter-association collaboration increases the value our members receive. QUTSPA’s members have provided an overwhelmingly positive response to our recent collaborations with QPSA, and we truly believe that QSOP will allow us to deliver even more opportunities and events on an even bigger scale.
We can’t wait to see what the future holds for QSOP.
